I’m Thomas: An Ayr Photographer Who Doesn’t Act His Age.
Hi, I’m Thomas.
I’m a photographer based in Ayr, South Ayrshire, just a 10 minute walk from the beach. When I’m not behind the lens, you’ll usually find me there. Living by the sea keeps me grounded and clears my head; it’s where my best ideas tend to wash up (no pun intended).
I’m 45 years young, though I’ve spent most of my life ignoring my mum’s favourite advice: “Act your age, not your shoe size.” I’m also a proud parent to three amazing kids: Jaxon, Charlie, and Tracey. I’ve had Tracey full time since she was four, and bringing up a child on my own was easily the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. It taught me patience, resilience, and how to keep going when things get tough, lessons that shape every wedding and shoot I document today.
At 34, I decided to go back to college to learn how to cook. Before that, I honestly didn’t have a clue. Apart from the lecturer, I was the oldest person in the class, and I definitely felt it! But I loved every second of it. These days, I genuinely enjoy baking and cooking; it’s one of the best ways I’ve found to switch off.
I’m very much a "dogs over cats" person (even though I do actually own a cat), and I’m a firm believer in the power of a good cuppa. Just don’t make it, Tetley... though I have to admit, my mum still has those vintage Tetley Tea Folk spoons to this day!
Ultimately, I enjoy the simple things: good company, a proper laugh, fresh air, and the importance of not taking life too seriously.
